They'll be joined on the bill by the likes of Kenny Chesney, Jennifer Lopez, David Guetta, Rascal Flatts, Kelly Clarkson and John Mayer (to name just a few). Organizers promise that even more artists will be added to the bill as the summer stretches on. The eternally busy Ryan Seacrest will host the event, which will stream live online and via mobile devices at iHeartRadio.com, and across the websites of all Clear Channel-owned radio stations. If you'd prefer to be there in person, you can get a first crack at tickets by liking iHeartRadio on Facebook. Rihanna was spotted out clubbing in West Hollywood recently in her best spandex. See the pics inside and find out about the fancy art piece she recently commissioned.
She's set to headline the UK's Barclaycard Wireless Fest alongside her homie-lover-friend Drake this summer (July 7-8) in London's Hyde Park. And Rihanna was spotted leaving Greystone Manor Nightclub in West Hollywood this week. In this get-up:

Rih rocked an army fatigue cap, and tight black skirt and a belly-revealing blouse paired with black pumps.

She also added her gold belly chain and black leather jacket.

Feel like we just transported back to the early 90's.

By the way, Rihanna doesn't just spend her money on clothes. The chick is also investing in art. Recently, she added to her growing art collection by purchasing a $160,000 of Marilyn Monroe made of 65,000 Swarovski crystals!
RiRi commissioned the piece from British artist Claire Milner. The custom piece took four months to complete and weighs 182 pounds! Of the piece, Claire said,
"A 100 percent Swarovski crystal portrait is very luxurious -- people stand and stare because it constantly changes color, sending rainbows round the room."
"I tried to show the glitter of the public life and then the sadness in Marilyn's eyes."
Pretty hot though...

LOS ANGELES — Britney Spears makes headlines at concerts, even when she's not performing. That's probably why Los Angeles radio station KIIS FM tapped the pop princess to guest-host their annual Wango Tango music festival along with Ryan Seacrest on Saturday night at the Staples Center.

The bill was a balance of pop and hip-hop, with acts like Ke$ha, Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull, Ne-Yo, Selena Gomez, "Glee" 's Matthew Morrison, Lupe Fiasco, T-Pain, Jason Derülo, Far East Movement, New Boyz, Cobra Starship and newcomer Cody Simpson. Backstage, the media room went into a frenzy when Spears arrived in a red, geometric-print dress and a beaming smile. Owning her "femme fatale" moniker, Spears worked the carpet for a few moments while all of the cameras in the room were pointing at her. It was the second red carpet appearance by Brit this week, after her Beverly Hills benefit on Wednesday night for the St. Bernard Project. Check out photos from Wango Tango 2011. Spears' Femme Fatale collaborator Ke$ha, who was returning to the festival for the second time, said that an onstage collab between to the two would have to require one thing. "That would have to include me finding her and attacking her," Ke$ha told MTV News, with the best intentions. "I'm planning on pouncing her." While that never happened, at least not onstage, Ke$ha delivered on her promise of a set heavy on her glitter gun. And she assured us she knew the dos and don'ts of handling that kind of firepower. "Do not spray yourself in the face with it," she said. "Do spray everybody else with it. That's pretty much it." While Joe Jonas wasn't performing at the show, he took a break from recording his solo debut to catch up with almost everyone backstage. "I didn't see Britney backstage, just said 'hello' to a couple of my friends," Jonas said. "Backstage is always [full of] people, especially having it at the Staples Center this time, I think compared to all the way out in the desert, it changes everything." Also happy to have Wango Tango in Los Angeles were locals Far East Movement. "Man, we grew up literally a few blocks away from here, and you can only imagine basketball games being played here," Kev Nish said. "So to come in here as performers, to be able to do our songs in this arena is a little crazy. We used to pass out CDs a few blocks [away], so we're very thankful. And the lineup is nuts, so we're extremely excited to be a part of this lineup." Were you at Wango Tango? Share your experience in the comments below!

Leader will.i.am. has already dropped the eye-popping video for "T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever)," the electro-fueled first single from his new solo album, while member apl.de.ap is focusing on non-musical ventures.

Apl announced the launch of this week of the "Charity Dreams" auction benefiting education in his native Philippines. The rapper, who is an educational ambassador for the island nation, is upping the ante on celebrity auctions in a major way with the "We Can Be Anything" event. The auction — which begins pre-registration this week at CharityDreams.com and lasts through 9 p.m. ET Wednesday — allows fans to start the bidding at just 99 cents for a huge prize package that may end up being the most affordable donation on the planet. Not only will the winner get a private-jet flight out to Los Angeles to spend time in the studio to watch as Apl creates a custom track in their honor, but the BEP rapper will also cut a custom disc of the session and serve as the DJ at the winner's birthday party, where he will spin the song for the top prize-getter and 50 of his or her friends. The winning bidder will also get a 2012 collector's edition Ferrari, $250,000 in cash and a trip to Las Vegas with 10 friends to spend New Year's Eve with Fergie while staying in the "Real World" penthouse suite. Once 1 million people pre-register and the bidding begins, all the money donated in bids will go toward building 10,000 classrooms in the Philippines and improving education in the nation. And even before the first brick is laid, bidders will be able to join together to help build "virtual classrooms." According to a release announcing the effort, every bid will allow users to buy virtual books, pencils, chairs, desks, etc., and help build virtual classrooms in an effort to combine gaming, social networking and philanthropy. Each time a bidder finishes a virtual classroom, an actual classroom will be named for that bidder once construction is completed on the new schools. In a unique twist, the initial fee to place a charity bid is 99 cents, with the bidding price beginning at $0. Organizers expect the final package to go for no more than a few hundred dollars thanks to a system in which each bid increases the top price by just a fraction of a penny. Each bid will also entitle users to an app, music download or play list curated by Apl and featuring an exclusive song or the chance to have Apl follow you on Twitter.

We take a look at Coldplay's least subtle — and perhaps finest — album ever, in Bigger Than the Sound.
By James Montgomery
Coldplay?s fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto
Photo: Parlophone Records

You can accuse Coldplay of being many things — mawkish, maudlin, bland, boring, grandiose, geeky, preachy, polished, M.O.R., A.O.R., E.L.O. — and more often than not, their (countless) critics do just that. You cannot, however, accuse them of being subtle. Not ever. That's OK, though. None of the hugest bands on the planet (the U2s, Linkin Parks, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc.) are practiced in the art of subtlety. It is simply not in their nature. Instead, they deal in universal themes, paint with the broadest of brushstrokes. That is, one could reasonably assume, at least partially why they are so popular: They make music that is massive and, of course, for the masses. I mention all that not to slag Coldplay, a band I actually like very much, but to A) point out that they have never focused on the smaller aspects of life (their first hit, "Yellow," opened with the line, "Look at the stars/ Look how they shine for you," and even their most delicate singles — stuff like "The Scientist" and "Fix You" and "Clocks" — could casually be described as "arena-size") and B) to defuse any and all criticisms of their latest album, Mylo Xyloto, which is very fine indeed but is not in any conceivable way a subtle thing.

And, again, that's just fine with me. My favorite thing about Coldplay has always been their willingness to experiment, to push the boundaries of what a (very) major-label rock band can and should do. They work with Brian Eno (who is credited with "Enoxification and additional composition" on Xyloto) Jay-Z and Jon Hopkins; they put Baudot Code on their album covers; and they are constantly, occasionally frustratingly, trying very hard to be overly complex. Sometimes, like on 2008's Viva la Vida, they try to do too much, which dulls the impact of their tunes. On Xyloto, due Tuesday (October 18), that is not the case. This is precision-honed Coldplay, which seems like an odd thing to say about a vaguely conceptual album that spans 14 tracks and features more electronic wallop than a dozen Creamfields, more skyward guitars than a million planetarium shows and more vocal chants than a season at Old Trafford. Oh, and Rihanna too. And yet, it all works. The biggest moments, like "Paradise," "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall," "Princess of China" (that's the RiRi track) and "Don't Let It Break Your Heart," pile each of those elements on with aplomb, and the results are gloriously giddy and appropriately anthemic. The several musical interludes on the disc show the Eno influence, each mercury-slick and slipstream shiny (they also serve as excellent onramps to those bigger tunes). And the few quiet moments on Xyloto, like the acoustic "U.F.O." and album-closing "Up With the Birds," draw maximum emotional impact out of minimal dynamic (and, as all quiet songs should be, are genuinely pretty too). Of course, Mylo Xyloto is also Coldplay's most electronic album, a fact that may bother some of their more centrist fans. But it's also their most adventurous, their most gigantic and, at least in terms of both of those things, their most impactful. And that, in and of itself, sets it far apart from most of the other major-label rock albums released this year, or any year. You can continue to criticize them all you want, but that just means you've never listened to their albums. With Xyloto, Coldplay have pulled off the rather impossible feat of expanding their repertoire while, at the same time, honing their focus. And that's a lot more difficult to pull off than subtlety, whether you're the smallest band in the world or the biggest. What do you think of Coldplay's new music? Let us know in the comments!

Conrad Murray asks judge for a court-appointed attorney to appeal his involuntary manslaughter conviction.

Just weeks after being sent to jail for four years following a conviction on a felony involuntary manslaughter charge in the death of Michael Jackson, cardiologist Conrad Murray is throwing himself on the mercy of the court. The doctor had been slated to earn up to $150,000 a month to act as Jackson's personal physician before the pop icon's death in June 2009 from an overdose of the Murray-administered surgical anesthetic propofol. But on Tuesday E! News reported that Murray filed a notice of appeal in Los Angeles Superior Court in which he claimed that he is "indigent and respectfully requests the appointment of counsel on appeal." Murray, 58, is planning to appeal both his conviction and his sentence, but has not yet filed papers with the California Appeals Court. He had hired two lawyers to handle his manslaughter case, but is now seeking attorneys with appeal experience. One of those former lawyers, J. Michael Flanagan, told E! that he was shocked at how his client is being treated in jail. "It is crazy and unbelievable how [the sheriffs] are treating" Murray in jail, said Flanagan, who claimed he waited over an hour to see Murray, who was brought out in handcuffs and leg chains. Flanagan was further shocked to see Murray handcuffed to the table for their meeting, something the lawyer said he'd never seen before in the case of a low-level, non-violent offender. Charles Peckham, who is handling civil cases against Murray, told the Associated Press that his client is under tight security and isolation that is more intense than other inmates at the Los Angeles Men's Central Jail. "Treating him like Hannibal Lecter is offensive," said Peckham. "This man who saved lives made a mistake, and they're going to [make] him pay like a mass-murderer." Sheriff's officials defended the tight security, saying it was for Murray's safety.

"Rock and roll is dying because people became OK with Nickelback being the biggest band in the world," he says. "So they became OK with the idea that the biggest rock band in the world is always going to be sh--. Therefore, you should never try to be the biggest rock band in the world. F--- that! Rock and roll is the music I feel the most passionate about, and I don't like to see it f---ing ruined and spoon-fed down our throats [with] this ... horrendous sh--. When people start lumping us into that kind of sh--, it's like 'F--- you,' honestly." Maybe he hasn't heard "Bottoms Up." Of course, in the interview, Carney was equally harsh on himself, saying he "suck[s] at the drums" and admitting that he agrees with most folks who call him awkward. But the most savage of his criticisms are definitely directed toward Nickelback. (A spokesperson for the band did not respond to MTV News' request for comment.) We may be witnessing the birth of our first great rock feud. Though 2012 is just five days old, it looks like it's going to be a big year indeed. Whose side are you on in the brewing rock and roll feud? Sound off in the comments below!

for it's U.S. tour due to foot injuries suffered by singer Anthony Kiedis. According to a release announcing the new dates, Kiedis, 49, recently underwent surgery to remove a crushed sesamoid bone and correct a detached flexor tendon in his foot. He's expected to make a full recovery, but in the meantime a series of shows that were supposed to kick off on January 20 in Sunrise, Florida have now been pushed back to late March and April. Fans holding tickets for the postponed shows can use them at the rescheduled dates.

The new dates for the RHCP tour: » March 29 -- St. Petersburg, FL @ St. Pete Times Forum
» March 31 -- Orlando, FL @ Amway Arena
» April 2 -- Sunrise, FL @ Bank Atlantic Center
» April 4 -- Raleigh, NC @ RBC Center
» April 6 -- Charlotte, NC @ Time Warner Cable Arena
» April 7 -- Columbia, SC @ Colonial Life Arena
» April 9 -- Greensboro, NC @ Greensboro Coliseum
» April 10 -- Atlanta, GA @ Gwinnett Center
» April 12 -- Memphis, TN @ FedEx Forum
» August 11 -- Los Angeles, CA @ Staples Center
» August 12 -- Los Angeles, CA @ Staples Center
» August 14 -- Oakland, CA @ Oakland Arena
» August 15 -- Oakland, CA @ Oakland Arena
» September 23 -- San Diego, CA@ Valley View Casino Center
» September 25 -- Phoenix, AZ @ Jobring Arena
» September 27 -- Denver, CO @ Pepsi Center
» September 29 -- San Antonio, TX @ AT&T Center
» October 2 -- Dallas, TX @ American Airlines Arena
» October 4 -- New Orleans, LA @ New Orleans Arena
» October 20 -- Houston, TX @ Toyota Center
» October 22 -- Oklahoma City, OK @ Chesapeake Arena
» October 24 -- Tulsa, OK @ BOK Arena
» October 25 -- Little Rock, AR @ Verizon Arena

Here in the States, Madonna sat down with ABC News and had some interesting comments about Lady Gaga. In another interview, on Friday's (January 13) "The Graham Norton Show," the singer seemed to take the high road and likened her early days of hustling in New York City to Gaga's beginnings. "When I first saw her, I saw her performing at a very small club in Manhattan a couple of years ago, maybe it was like three years ago," she said. "I was actually really impressed by her. I thought she was really cool and she did remind me of me back in the day. I liked her rawness and there was something fresh about there and ballsy, and when she spoke to the audience, she sounded like she had a similar sense of humor to me, quite ironic, and I liked her. So I do think she is very talented." That was really the end of the subject during their chat, other than when Madonna teased the British talk-show host about naming his dog after her. However, when he said his other dog was named Bailey, she quipped, "Not Gaga?" Some of that sentiment was mirrored in Madge's ABC interview, the rest of which airs on Friday's night's 20/20. While she did call Gaga's "Born This Way" song "reductive" when asked about comparisons to her own "Express Yourself," she went on to say that she sees a lot of her own work in Gaga's. "I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. And sometimes I think it's amusing and flattering and well-done," she said, later adding that she thinks Gaga is "a very talented artist" and that she's making a "statement about taking something that was in the zeitgeist, you know, 20 years ago and turning it inside out and reinterpreting it." Madonna is currently making the rounds promoting her next album, M.D.N.A., as well as her film "W.E." What do you think of Madonna's Gaga thoughts? Glam rocker tackled the legendary 1970 Led Zeppelin song for 'American Idol' rock night.

Imagine a freight train speeding toward you at midnight. Or a rockslide barreling down a hill as you try to outrace it. That's the feeling of the ominous, chugging Jimmy Page riff that kicks off <MTVNLINK type="url" id="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</MTVNLINK>'s 1970 Stonehenge of rock, "Whole Lotta Love." And that's before singer Robert Plant leans into one of the nastiest, ecstatic rock screams this side of the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again." That's the song Adam Lambert chose to sing on "American Idol" rock night Tuesday (May 5), and, needless to say, it was a challenge that the eyeliner-loving Los Angeles stage veteran was more than up for, hitting a series of high notes and rock screams that would have made Plant proud. It was a risky maneuver that paid off for Lambert, who chose a tune that came in at #75 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" in 2004.

The legendary British rock act recorded the tribute to Chicago blues icon Willie Dixon during their second U.S. tour after working it out in their live show, including it on their 1969 classic album Led Zeppelin II. Like many of the songs Zeppelin performed early in their career, "Love" was a blues standard turned on its head with a heavy dose of crunching psychedelic guitar and thundering drums, courtesy of late drummer John Bonham. The song was based on a 1962 tune by another blues forefather, Muddy Waters, called "You Need Love," which was penned by Dixon. For Zeppelin's version, Plant customized the lyrics by adding some lyrical quotes from a few other songs Dixon wrote for Howlin' Wolf, "Back Door Man" and "Shake For Me," nailing the tricky vocal in a single take. It was also inspired by 1966's "You Need Loving" from the British rock group the Small Faces, for whom Zeppelin had great affection, but they also did not credit Dixon for his part in writing the original lyrics. The song became Zeppelin's first U.S. single and their only U.S. top 10 hit. Though their manager would not let them release singles in the U.K. because he thought it cannibalized album sales, the song was finally released as the band's only British single in 1997. Dixon sued Zeppelin over the song in 1985, claiming it borrowed too heavily from his "You Need Love," and Zeppelin reached an agreement with him, with Dixon using the money he received to set up a program that provided musical instruments for schools. A cornerstone of heavy rock, the tune -- which was the theme song for the long-running British countdown show "Top of the Pops" in the 1970s and '80s -- has been covered by dozens of artists over the years, from Tina Turner and Ben Harper to Prince, Slash, Leona Lewis, Train's Pat Monahan, the London Symphony Orchestra and Jane's Addiction. Get your "Idol" fix on MTV News' "American Idol" page, where you'll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.
