<P>The ongoing situation between fans of the <a href="/news/articles/1674301/nickelback-detroit-lions-thanksgiving-game.jhtml">Detroit Lions and Nickelback</a> — which, for the uninitiated, involves the band's performance during the team's Thanksgiving game, an <a href="/news/articles/1673783/nickelback-detroit-fans-petition.jhtml">online petition</a> and the <a href="/news/articles/1674406/nickelback-detroit-lions-thanksgiving-united-way.jhtml">United Way</a> — is the kind of thing that practically lends itself to parody. So it's no surprise that the folks over at <a href="http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/5166240802/nickelback-responds-to-NFL-petition?playlist=featured_videos" target="_blank">Funny or Die</a> have decided to enter the fray, with a new video that actually stars the Canadian quartet. </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Nickelback's 'Detroit Debacle' Was Perfect Spoof Material For Funny Or Die" id="vid:712985.id:1674723" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>Given the rather vehement acrimony the band has suffered thanks to the <a href="http://www.change.org/petitions/the-detroit-lions-replace-nickelback-as-the-halftime-show-for-the-thanksgiving-game" target="_blank">petition</a> (which, at last count, includes more than 75,000 signatures and messages like "Haven't the good people of Detroit been through enough?"), you'd probably be surprised to learn that, as soon as they were approached by FoD, Nickelback said yes to the spoof. Then again, they're the kind of band that is definitely aware of their public perception. </P><P> </P><P>"They called us up. They said, 'This whole debacle that's going on in Detroit it just lunacy. We here in the comedy field think it's just perfect for making fun of, and if you guys would like to come down here ... ' " frontman Chad Kroeger told MTV News. "We're huge fans of Funny or Die and anything Will Ferrell is associated with — we're there. So we're like, 'Absolutely, we'd love to come and make fun of the whole thing and ourselves at the same time.' " </P><P> </P><P>Of course, Nickelback will also be the first to admit that perhaps their acting skills aren't up to par. Which is why the only thing standing in the way of their Funny or Die clip's viral success may be Nickelback themselves. </P><P> </P><P>"As soon as they get real actors to take our places, then it's going to be viral," guitarist Ryan Peake laughed. </P><P> </P><P><iframe src="http://www.funnyordie.com/embed/5166240802" width="420" height="269" frameborder="0"></iframe></p>

'He always wants there to be the soul in there,' Cruz tells MTV News about his 'Without You' collaborator.

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a> is hard at work on his next album. Set to work with fellow hitmaker <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/cruz__taio/artist.jhtml">Taio Cruz</a>, the two already cooked up some magic with their <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/guetta_david/artist.jhtml">David Guetta</a> anthem <a href="/news/articles/1670301/usher-david-guetta-without-you.jhtml">"Without You,"</a> and it seems they are hoping to recapture that spirit for Usher's follow-up to 2010's <i>Raymond v. Raymond</i>. </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Taio Cruz's Collabo With Usher Is A 'Secret'" id="vid:717257" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>"I saw Usher a few times, but I spoke to him at length at David [Guetta]'s house when we were in Ibiza [Spain]," he told MTV News in L.A. after his Jingle Ball set. "He has very specific ideas of where he wants to go musically and sound-wise." </P><P> </P><P>Given that Usher has never shied away from exposing a bit of himself in his music, while also keeping the party going, Cruz wants to make sure they can connect the mind, body and soul for this next release. "He always wants there to be the soul in there," he explained. "I'm kind of, not the opposite, but I'm always like, 'Let's get straight to the point and be really clear with the message and be simple.' </P><P> </P><P>"So we try to match those two worlds together: being soulful and, at the same time, catchy," he added. </P><P> </P><P>Cruz can't yet discuss what they're working on: Besides "Without You," he said, "Everything else is secret." </P><P> </P><P>Usher said he was drawn to the <a href="/news/articles/1674782/usher-david-guetta-without-you.jhtml">Guetta hit</a> because he connected to it emotionally, explaining to MTV News recently what an important part that plays in his musical philosophy. "I think the world wanted a record like that. That [song] really spoke to the journey that I've actually been on in the last three years," he said. "Traveling all around the world, music sounds different. <P>The lineup for the 11th annual Bonnaroo Festival features a powerhouse lineup for headliners including Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Phish, along with some recent <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/grammys">Grammy</a> <a href="/news/articles/1678701/grammy-winners-list.jhtml">winners</a> such as <a href="/news/articles/1679107/grammys-2012-bon-iver-best-new-artist.jhtml">Bon Iver</a> and <a href="/news/articles/1679070/grammys-2012-skrillex-wins.jhtml">EDM star Skrillex</a>. </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="How Does Skrillex Feel About Being The Poster Child For EDM?" id="vid:732060.id:1678854" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>As always, the roster of acts who will descend on the 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, for the four-day festival held June 7 to June 10 is a wildly eclectic mix of jam, rock, hip-hop, bluegrass and just about everything in between. The reunited Beach Boys are also on the list, along with the Shins, Avett Brothers, Black Star, shock rock icon Alice Cooper, Feist, rapper/actor Donald Glover as Childish Gambino, the Roots and legendary reggae-spike punk act Bad Brains. </P><P> </P><P>The full roster includes more than 125 bands and 20 comedians performing on 13 stages, with tickets going on sale at noon on Saturday, February 18, on <a href="http://www.bonnaroo.com/" target="_blank">Bonnaroo.com</a>. Producer Martin Solveig tells MTV News about recording 'Give Me All Your Luvin,' 'I Don't Give A' and 'B-Day Song' with three fierce ladies.

<P>As if just having <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/madonna/artist.jhtml">Madonna</a> on her own album wasn't enough, the Queen of Pop enlisted the help of two hip-hop princesses to up the girl-power quotient on <a href="/news/articles/1681770/madonna-mdna-album.jhtml"><i>MDNA</i></a>. </P><P> </P><P>As she sat down with producer Martin Solveig to whip up tunes for her latest studio album, when it came time to bring more feistiness to the already-sassy album, she knew the only two artists who could perfectly compliment her were <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/minaj__nicki/artist.jhtml">Nicki Minaj</a> and <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/mia__4_/artist.jhtml">M.I.A.</a> (Maya Arulpragasam). Solveig explained to MTV News how the twosome came to appear alongside Madge on the album's lead single, <a href="/news/articles/1678478/madonna-give-me-all-your-luvin-video.jhtml">"Give Me All Your Luvin."</a> </P><P> </P><P><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:754389/cp~vid%3D754389%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A754389" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed> </P><P> </P><P>"I had this idea of just creating this sort of mini-gimmick that you could very easily use in the stadium or arena," he said of the cheerleader-inspired chant in the song. "And so I thought of that, which was very basic. ... That was the start. </P><P> </P><P>"In the first place, it was just the intro, and then it became a bit more of a gimmick, and she liked it, and so she thought, 'We should have sidekicks to perform with me on the this.' ... She thought of very naturally Nicki and Maya to perform this because they are badass girls. </P><P> </P><P>"I was very surprised [it was the first single], and then it made it totally sense with her <a href="/news/articles/1678934/madonna-mia-super-bowl-middle-finger.jhtml">Super Bowl [performance]</a> because, yes, it was definitely the Super Bowl song. And when we started, it was definitely not the case," he explained. "We wanted to do something like this. It was a little surf-y. Then I guess when the Super Bowl was confirmed, they thought it would work for that, and I think it did." </P><P> </P><P>Solveig broke down the recording sessions he and the ladies had for not only "Give Me," but also the scathing "I Don't Give A," which features Nicki, and the funky "B-Day Song," which has M.I.A. </P><P> </P><P>"We were the studio both one day with Nicki and two days with Maya," he said. "They have both very strong personalities and very different. Nicki's very pro. She's like, once she arrives and she spends some time, she writes, seriously, her stuff and then she records very quickly, and she's like <i>bang</i>. </P><P> </P><P>"And with Maya, she's a bit more arty," he said. "I didn't see them together. I would have loved to witness this. Definitely, [Madonna] was definitely the perfect [middle]." </P><P> </P><P>The <a href="/news/articles/1680529/madonna-i-dont-give-a-guy-ritchie.jhtml">"I Don't Give A"</a> collaboration got a lot of press, thanks to its seemingly overt reference to Madonna's life and her split from director Guy Ritchie. </P><P> </P><P>"A few days after I finalized the song, she finished the lyrics of 'I Don't Give A,' and I could feel there was a lot of references to her life," he said. "Nothing that I really know of, because you don't know that kind of stuff, but then I saw it was very commented everywhere." </P><P> </P><P>In the end, when it's all said and done, Solveig noted that working with Madge was pretty awesome. "I got a call last year from [her manager] Guy Oseary, and he wanted to know if I was in town working, and that was the phone call of a lifetime when you're a producer, when you heard all the legend and all the story. So I took the next plane and went to meet with Madonna, and I quickly got to work. </P><P> </P><P>"In the first place, it's very confus[ing] because everything that's all together, you have a very kind person in front of you, [and] you're like, 'Can you imagine who you're talking to?' and she's very natural," he continued. "She's very easy-going, so you tend to forget it. But, of course, the first time, it's crazy."</p>

In 2002, Justin Timberlake blew everyone's minds when he dropped Justified, his star-making solo album. It propelled him from tween-dream poster boy to legitimate pop star.
Exactly 10 years later, there's another young singer who is looking to make the same leap. When Justin Bieber dropped "Boyfriend" earlier this week, he laid down the gauntlet and declared his pop-star manhood.
His transition is one that Timberlake faced a decade ago as he looked to carve a new path for himself in a post-'NSYNC world. With grinding, ear-busting production from the Neptunes and Timbaland, the onetime boy-bander created an album that sounded unlike anything his fans had heard before. Sure, he had teased it on 'NSYNC's last album, Celebrity, but this album was different — it was all Timberlake. It was sexy and definitely much edgier lyrically, with him singing about girls and sex in a more-mature way.
At the time, he faced the incredibly difficult pop conundrum of having to grow up right before an audience. That's the challenge Bieber now faces. At 18, he can't stray too far from his My World days, but in order to grow as an artist and a person, he also can't make "Baby" over and over again.
And, honestly, who would want him to? Edgy and sexy feel like the innate next step for the teen star, with Usher as his mentor — a dude who made a name for himself singing songs about the things he does in the bedroom and flaunting his abs all over town. Although, it's interesting to note that Bieber chose to follow in Timberlake's footsteps. A little history lesson: Timberlake once was in a bidding war to sign Bieber on as his protégé. Usher won, and the rest is history.
"Boyfriend," Bieber's lead single off his Believe album, set for release later this year, is straight from the Timberlake blueprint. With production from Mike Posner and Mason Levy, the song is the perfect blend of hip-hop, vintage Michael Jackson-flavored R&B and pop. It's not a far cry from JT's "Like I Love You" thematically: A young man meets a young woman and uses a song, full of bleeps and beats, to declare all the reasons they should be together. Consider all the young women across the world sold on every one of his swag-heavy arguments.
It's easy to harp on Bieber for playing it very close to the Timberlake playbook. But, why shouldn't he? Timberlake seems more focused on movies than music; Bieber's filling the blue-eyed soul void left by Timberlake's absence on the charts. And with A-list assistance from Timbaland (yes, Timberlake's producer), Diplo and will.i.am, Believe just might make us all believe in the power of Bieber.
With the single poised for a huge debut and radio embracing the teen in a bigger way than ever before, now might be the perfect time for Bieber to become everyone's musical boyfriend. So, grab your fondue pot, get your swaggie on, and blast the track. You know you want to.

'Guys are like, 'I don't know what it is, but you're really hot,' comedian Stevie Ryan says of playing the teen superstar on VH1 show.

<P>Stevie Ryan may make fun of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> on her new VH1 show <a href="http://www.vh1.com/shows/stevie_tv/series.jhtml" target="_blank">"Stevie TV,"</a> but the actress and the pop star actually have something cool in common: They were both discovered on YouTube. </P><P> </P><P>Ryan began her career impersonating celebrities and creating her own characters on her YouTube <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/stevieryan" target="_blank">channel</a> and instantly became an Internet star. Now the 26-year-old comedian gets to do her routines on VH1, portraying some of today's biggest celebs and reality TV stars. </P><P> </P><P><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:752244/cp~vid%3D752244%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A752244" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed> </P><P> </P><P>"It's just a female's perspective on pop culture, really, at least that's the way I think about it," Ryan told MTV News on Tuesday. "It's really just kind of making fun of pop culture, what's happening in it, just making fun of these celebrities that are rewarded for bad behavior." </P><P> </P><P>So far on "Stevie TV," Ryan has created a music video that mocks <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/perry_katy/artist.jhtml">Katy Perry</a>'s "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)," gotten into character as <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> and done some cross-dressing to get into one of her favorite roles, Justin Bieber. </P><P> </P><P>Ryan explained that Bieber has been the most fun to play "because I always tell everybody how guys and girls always like me when I'm Justin Bieber. ... Girls are like, 'You're so cute, like, are you really a <i>girl</i>?' And then guys are like, 'I don't know what it is, but you're really hot.' But I really like playing everybody," she laughed. </P><P> </P><P>And though she may poke fun at celebrities, Ryan said she's really a fan of most of the stars ... except maybe one. </P><P> </P><P>"I just thought, 'What a great way to kind of show that this is what the younger generation is growing up with, that who little girls like, is Kim Kardashian,' " Ryan said. "It's just observing these weird behaviors and finding a place for them that makes sense because you can always make fun of Kim Kardashian — she has a big butt, she made a sex tape — but at the same time you have to step back and look at the big picture; people are actually wanting to be like this." </P><P> </P><P>As for future episodes, Ryan really wants to impersonate a certain Young Money rapper. "I would like to do <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/minaj__nicki/artist.jhtml">Nicki Minaj,"</a> Ryan revealed. "There's nothing that I want to make fun of about her, because I'm obsessed with her and I really, really love her." </P><P> </P><P>Asked if she's gotten any backlash yet for the sometimes harsh jokes on her show, Ryan said she hasn't, but she's ready if it comes her way. </P><P> </P><P>"It hasn't happened before and I'd give a flying f--- about what any of them have to say," Ryan said. "Because I'm just doing my job just like they are and so whatever, if anyone has anything to say, bring it!" </P><P> </P><P><a href="http://www.vh1.com/shows/stevie_tv/series.jhtml" target="_blank">"Stevie TV"</a> airs Sundays at 11 p.m. ET on VH1. </P><P> </P><P><i>What do you think of "Stevie TV"? In the first large photo, we see the baby swathed in a polka-dot wrap sleeping. In the remaining images, she has her eyes wide open and is being held by her beaming mother, and in another, her back is to us while she's being held by her smiling father. </P><P> </P><P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/photos/thumbnails.jhtml?fid=1679016&view=thumb"><b>Photos: Blue Ivy Carter revealed.</a></b> </P><P> </P><P>There's a note that reads: "We welcome you to share in our joy. Thank you for respecting our privacy during this beautiful time in our lives. The Carter family." </P><P> </P><P>The baby-picture reveal is just the latest Blue Ivy news. On Thursday, it was confirmed that the high-profile couple filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to <a href="/news/articles/1678877/beyonce-jay-z-blue-ivy-trademark.jhtml">trademark Blue Ivy's name</a>. The patent is intended to prevent the use of their daughter's name by non-related parties. The application was filed by Beyoncé's company, BGK Trademark Holdings, and is currently pending. <i>The Washington Post</i> reported that it will likely get approved, considering that parents are legally authorized to trademark the names of minor children. </P><P> </P><P>Earlier this week, Beyoncé revealed her post-pregnancy body, and she's back in fighting shape only a month after the birth of her baby girl. <a href="/news/articles/1678670/beyonce-post-baby-appearance-jay-z.jhtml">B was photographed twice</a> this week, including at the first night of <a href="/news/articles/1678669/jay-z-carnegie-hall.jhtml">Jay-Z's two-night charity stint at Carnegie Hall</a>. </P><P> </P><P><i>What do you think of the first Blue Ivy photos?
